January tastings begin with our annual exploration of Washington State.  For years we have discussed Washington as a side show to California, but now it is in ascendance.  With more than 600 wineries, a  proliferation of new wine regions, as well as landing on the front page of Wine Spectator, there is clearly much to explore in Washington.  Ben is even going to bring a back vintage of Andrew Will to taste!  Come join us in drinking the wines of this extraordinary state!

Zinfandel!

and Touch of Syrah to Compare…

Wednesday, January 25, 7:00 pm, $20 per guest

Zinfandel used to be a throw away grape variety made into sweet blush wine.  But a handful of wineries in the early 1970s changed all of that.  These pioneering wineries set a course for Zinfandel to become one of the greatest wines of the world.

Now, many California wineries are looking for other long-forgotten grapes that may have great potential.  One such grape is Syrah, and a few bold, innovative wineries are crafting its potential.

This tasting focuses on Zinfandel but adds just a bit more spice by showcasing a few domestic Syrahs as well.  Come compare and contrast these varieties!

Wines to be tasted:

2009 Ridge Geyserville Zinfandel $32.99

2006 Rosenblum St. Peter’s Church Zinfandel $49.99

2009 Wine Guerilla Russian River Valley Zinfandel $15.99

2008 Tobin James Ballistic Zinfandel $15.99

2008 Neyers Old Lakeville Road Syrah $34.99

2006 Branham Rockpile Zinfandel $29.99

& more!
